Tiffen 77mm UV Protection Filter Review

I bought this to protect my actual lens and it paid huge dividends. Not sure how it happened but I took the camera out of the camera bag and the protection filter was cracked like a spider web. Fotunately, the lens underneath it didn't have a scratch on it. If I hadn't spent the little bit of money on the lens filter, I would have been looking a costly repair of a $1500 lens.

Aiptek A-HD 720P 8MP CMOS High Definition Camcorder Review

So I was looking for a cheap and small camcorder to record short films in HD, and possibly post on youtube. I searched around and found this Aiptek model, and found that the main problem people had with it was the sound and indoor shots, but I found a good price online for a open box one and got it. I had the Aiptek MPVR before which I loved, but it also didn't do so well indoors.
With that in mind, I got the camcorder and started to test it out. The video quality outside is superb, but is mediocre outside (as expected).
The sound, however, was way worse than what I expected, and was very annoying. It was too bad for me to bare it, so I began searching online, and found that there was a mod to attach an external microphone, and replace the internal one. I have never Moded anything before, but decided to give it a shot (because of the cheap price I got it for). If you decide to Mod, I claim no responsibility if your camcorder gets messed up, and it is YOUR sole responsibility.
After the mod, it's an amazing camcorder!!! The only downside is that it has no image stabilization, but i ALWAYS use a tripod, so no worries there for me ;D
Inside, you might need some extra lighitng, but outside it's got pretty amazing footage. The files are quicktime files, which can be converted with free programs online (not sure if it comes with software, cause I had a great video converter by kyotosoft)
I've recently started using Adobe Premier pro, which readily accepts the files as is (which is awesome!)
Overall, it's a great buy after the Mod, but before so, I wouldn't recommend it. The sound is too crackly and annoying.
P.S. The external mic mod adds a small (half an index finger) sized mic on top of the camcorder, whereas the internal mic mod changed nothing. I chose to do both before then i could add any mic externally (because it has a hot-swap jack) but the internal mic mod is fine on it's own (the external is better though ;D ) Sorry if i confused you with all that

Aiptek Action HD GVS 1080P High Definition Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom (Silver) Review

I used this camera on a recent trip to Europe. The HD video is really very nice, but even at zero zoom, the field of view is very limited. One has to stand quite far away from one's subject in order to capture a reasonable image size, way further than would be needed when using a standard digital camera or SLR with a 50mm lens, for instance. This made taking good video next to impossible. The low-light performance, as others have noted and one might expect, is fairly poor, but the daylight video and pictures are very nice. I would personally look for something with more flexibility in the way of field of view, this one is just too limited in that regard.

Aiptek A-HD+ 1080P High Definition Camcorder (Silver) Review

I wasn't expecting much when I purchased Aiptek A-HD+ 1080P but I was pleasantly surprised. I was trying to create a cheap way to produce youtube videos. I had a fairly new MiniDV Camera however it didn't have the resolution to make the green screen work out as I had hope. Purchased the Aiptek and it worked like a charm.
My only complaint is with the LCD screen's button are kind of hard to press and when you are watching the live video stream on my HD TV it jumps from full screen to letterbox when I press record. Aside from that I give it a 5+. After all, we're talking about a $150 camera - not the professional cameras i'm used to working with!

DXG DXG-505V 5.1 MegaPixel Camera with 2.4" Rotating LCD Review

What this is supposed to do best is probably the worst feature of this product, which is recording video. If you don't mind low res video, and just want something to mess around with, then it's fine. It does take good pictures, but if I wanted good pictures, I would've bought a digital camera. Same goes for the mp3 player, radio, and voice recorder. I wanted this for capturing decent video, and it does a really lousy job with what they should have made thier number one priority. I didn't expect too much from this camcorder for it's price, but it's pretty bad when my brothers digital camera, which was cheaper than this, takes much better quality video. So yea, your probably just better off buying a digital camera that records video, because it'll probably be better at pictures and video than this sub-standard camcorder.

DXG DXG 567VP 5.0MP HD Camcorder with 2.0-Inch Hi-Res LCD and 2x Zoom Review

I was weary to buy this product because no one had reviewed it. I've never written a review myself but I think I should put a stop to this thing's despicable anonymity.
It's a HD camera purported to have been squeezed into a tiny hand held shape for a mere 130 some dollars.
Yes, That's right... it's way too good to be true.
The long and short is... because of the high(er) resolution (this is 720p not 1080i --full HD current standard) the actual frame rate of your films will be around 15fps, not the reported 30 fps. The result is nauseatingly jumpy video. Couple that with lackluster low light abilities and a real crappy image stabilization system and you get video that is UNWATCHABLE.
I returned mine and am going to get the more proven and able Flip Video Ultra.
I know it's cheap, so maybe I should go easy but... It doesn't really do anything but produce unwatchable video. What would I pay for that? Not $100, not &10 not nothin'!
Stay Away.

DXG DXG-569VK 5.0 Megapixel Ultra-Slim High-Definition Digital Video Camera In Box (Black) Review

The DXG-569VK HI-DEF camcorder was quite simply the worst camera purchase I have ever made. Amazon's service was terrific as usual, but this product is just inferior in every conceivable way. Poor construction, incomprehensible instructions, you name it. Even when I followed the instructions line by line and letter by letter the camera did not perform consistently. Even after some 12 hours of struggling and frustration I was never able to actually shoot Hi-Def videos. I own many other video cameras and do video contract work, so this is not a novice issue. In over 30 years of using cameras of all types this is the most disappointing purchase I have made. My recommendation: spend the extra money and buy a reputable brand! Amazon should not even offer this product. Check out similar reviews on Radioshack.com for verification. Buyer Beware!

DXG DXG-595V 5.0 Megapixel High-Definition Ultra Digital Video Camera Review

I am writing this review based on the price of around $200. Im sure a 600$ + hd video camera would be better in every way. Same as you cant complain your new Kia dosent have all the features or is not as nice as your friends new BWM.
Most other HD video cameras in the price range look like toys, with small 1 to 2" flip screens, mono sound that sounds bad, no optical zoom, the video quality is poor even at 720, colors washed out and just not worth messing with unless they are for your 10 year old to record his bicycle stunts.
I just got this camera and it seems very good for the price and is not built like a toy. Has a large 3" lcd, stereo sound, 5x optical zoom, latching SD card cover and uses common batteries. The colors look very accurate and bright, when played back on my 47" 1080 lcd tv, it looks very nice, everything is clear and sharp. The hand strap is adjustable and unlike my $500 JVC hard drive camera, this one adjusts big enough that my hand fits in it. Also unlike my more expensive JVC, you can close the screen and keep recording or keep the camera turned on. Even if its off you wont miss a shot, it power up and it ready to record in about 2 seconds. Besides white balance and night mode I dont think there are other manual control settings that would you find on a more expensive camera.
I have seen reviews on this camera with people saying the video playback is terrible, studders or is blocky. First, if you are going to play / edit this video on your computer, read the box & website. They recommended 3.0 ghz computer or faster. (To find out your speed, open your start menu and Right click on My Computer (or Computer) and select properties, it will say on that page 3.0ghz, 2.2 Ghz, etc)... If your computer is slower than that or has low end video hardware you will not be able to watch full 1080p movies on your computer. That is not a fault of the video camera and HD videos from any camera would be the same. You can however, use any speed computer for simply storing your videos or resizing them for youtube, email, etc. Just expect it will take your computer some time to convert the movies.
The camera does have standard composite out that will work on any tv with a single yellow video input plug, so no computer is required to watch movies. It also comes with a composite cable( 3 connector) that will plug into most HDTV's and you can watch your HD video right off the camera.
I purchased a 2nd battery when I bought the camera, it uses the same as a Fuji NP-120 and a good quality battery can be bought for under $20. The battery is suppose to last 1.5 - 2 hours and the charger is a 2 hour charger, so with 2 batteries should be able to keep recording forever if you have the charger with you. You can also get car chargers for this battery type for around $20 if you want to take a road trip.
For the technical parts: The audio records AAC 2 channel at 128k. 1440x1080p (HD) records around 8000-10000k, 1280x720p (HD) 4000-5000k, 848x480p (about the same size as a standard DVD) 2500-3500k and if you want to email or send a video right to youtube or myspace it records 320x240 at about 500-550k.
It officially supports SD and SDHC cards to 8GB, although some users said they have used larger cards on message boards. I would recommend testing them before recording anything important if you are tiring a larger card that officially supported. You are limited to a file size of just under 4GB per single video, this is the limit of the file system used on the SDHC cards and effects all card based video cameras. That works out to 50-60 minutes of continuous recording at 1080p & over 2 hours at 720p, you only need to stop for a seconds, then you can start again and keep doing that until your card is full.
I have only had one issue with this camera. The way it comes from the factory is the sound level comes down when zooming, so it dosent pick up the zoom motors, but you loose a few seconds of sound. The option is to use a slower zoom speed then the audio does not cut out. You can goto the dxgusa web site and download this update if you want it.
The directions were kind of unclear, to get it to work, 1. Take an empty SD card and put it in a card reader, format it for FAT32, 2. download the firmware from the website and extract or open the file, 3. drag or copy the file named like dvh596.bin to the empty card 4. Put the card in the camera, flip the mode switch to SET & press DISP & then ZOOM in at the same time, select FV VERSION, press enter (the joystick IN) and it should then update the camera. When it says Finished, you will have to turn the camera off and restart it.
Since updating the camera the zoom is slightly slower but the sound stays steady and you still do not hear any noises when zooming in / out.
In short, if you are expecting studio quality video, you should be looking at a studio quality camera, they start around $3000 and to shoot Hollywood movies expend to spend about $20,000, besides lenses, memory & battery backs, etc.... If you want a camera that looks much better than a mini-DVD camera or a digital camera shooting video, then here you go.
